Patrick W. Carothers

Patrick W. Carothers

Patrick Carothers is one of the founders and the Managing Director of Carothers & Hauswirth LLP. He is the Chair of the Firm’s Business Restructuring Division.

Mr. Carothers has represented clients in insolvency related proceedings for over 20 years. These representations include: hundreds of businesses in financial distress, in which Mr. Carothers has guided the companies to restructure their operations (with a preference and track record for achieving legal goals outside of bankruptcy, but also through the chapter 11 process); over 3,000 representations of businesses and individuals in bankruptcy litigation matters, with a specialization in the area of fraudulent transfers and “preference” actions. Mr. Carothers also represents several private companies as their outside general counsel, through which he provides day-to-day legal advice in a variety of legal areas.

Mr. Carothers also holds stakes in several businesses in the real estate title insurance industry, the retail franchise markets and real estate holding companies. He also has served and continues to serve as a board member to several private companies.

Prior to founding Carothers & Hauswirth LLP, Mr. Carothers was a partner with law firm of Leech Tishman Fuscaldo & Lampl LLC for 9 years, where he served as the Chair of that firm’s Business Restructuring & Insolvency Practice Group and a member of that firm’s executive management committee. From 2003 to 2012, Mr. Carothers was a partner in the Bankruptcy & Restructuring Practice Group and a member of the executive management committee of Thorp Reed & Armstrong LLP (now Clark Hill PLC). In his early career, Mr. Carothers was an associate and a member of the Business Restructuring group at McDonald Hopkins LLC. He also served for one year as a law clerk to United States Bankruptcy Judge Pat E. Morgenstern-Clarren (Northern District of Ohio) and the 6th Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel.

Mr. Carothers is a 2000 graduate of the Duquesne University School of Law, where he was a member of the Law Review. He also is a 1996 graduate of Robert Morris University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

Gregory W. Hauswirth

Gregory Hauswirth is a founding partner of Carothers & Hauswirth LLP. He is the chair of the firm’s Bankruptcy Litigation Division. Mr. Hauswirth throughout his 2 decades of practice has provided advice to privately held companies in many areas ranging from representing over 1,000 companies and individuals in insolvency related matters, consisting of defending their rights in bankruptcy litigation cases and in providing business restructuring advice, both out of court and through the chapter 11 process. He also represents a multitude of companies as their outside general counsel, providing legal advice in several areas of business law that frequently occur in the life span of privately held businesses. Mr. Hauswirth prides himself on providing legal services in a practical and resourceful manner – while being mindful of the need to provide cost-effective representations.

Prior to founding Carothers & Hauswirth LLP, Mr. Hauswirth was a partner with the law firm of Leech Tishman Fuscaldo & Lampl LLC, where he was a member of that firm’s Business Restructuring & Insolvency Practice Group from 2012 to 2021.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Hauswirth was an associate attorney with the law firm of Thorp Reed & Armstrong LLP (now Clark Hill PLC), where he was a member of that firm’s Business Restructuring Group. In 2007, Mr. Hauswirth served as a judicial extern to United States Bankruptcy Judge Jeffery A. Deller (Western District of Pennsylvania.)

Prior to pursuing a career in law, from 1999 through 2006, Mr. Hauswirth was employed by Ariba, Inc. (formerly FreeMarkets, Inc.), as a Manager in Ariba’s Strategic Sourcing Consulting Group, where he was responsible for designing and deploying enterprise-wide sourcing solutions to support Global 1000 organizations. Mr. Hauswirth worked closely with various clients across a range of industries to develop and implement eSourcing programs, and during his tenure was honored with the Ariba Excellence Award from Ariba’s Consulting Group. During this time, Mr. Hauswirth earned his Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) designation from the Institute for Supply Management (I.S.M.).

Mr. Hauswirth is a 2009 graduate of the Duquesne University School of Law. He also is a 1999 graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management and played football for the Tartans.
Mr. Hauswirth is admitted to practice before the State Bars of Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
